A hound dog with a survivor’s heart is getting a second chance after a Livingston animal shelter says he was shot.
Shelter staff say Amos the hound is lucky to be alive.
Stafford Animal Shelter in Park County says their rescue partners, Help Every Pet of Hardin, found Amos struggling to live after getting shot in the shoulder, with the bullet exiting through his neck.
Shelter staff say Amos, sometimes calling him “Famous Amos” or the "Adoptable Amos," was severely underweight and malnourished and the rescue group sent him to them after being treated by a vet.
Since then, he’s recovering and has officially become adoptable as of Thursday.
“He’s ready to go," says Steve Leach, Stafford Animal Shelter executive director. "We’re putting a little weight on him slowly and he’ll be a really good pet for somebody, especially a hound lover.”
“It’s so rewarding to see these guys come in, having had hard luck, and just people coming together to get them to a happy home," says Sara Shier, Stafford Animal Shelter care supervisor.
The shelter said Amos is good with people of all ages, even other dogs.
He just needs special attention and care as he moves forward with his recovery.
