DARBY -- Darby head football coach Jeff Snavely has resigned from his position nearly a month after comments he made on a social media post suggesting protesters should be lynched came to light. The post and his Facebook account have since been deleted.
The school announced the resignation in a press release on Facebook on Friday afternoon.
The Darby school board voted on June 26 to retain Snavely but chose to suspend him for a year without pay. The board also outlined requirements to form a committee on racial and social justice, while also requiring Snavely to attend training sessions himself.
Snavely was the head football coach at Darby for the past seven seasons.
The school district said that Snavely's resignation will not change their direction on addressing racism in the community.
