Mandy Moore says viewers won’t see what’s coming on ‘This Is Us’

Mandy Moore says the upcoming season of “This Is Us” is going to blow viewers away.

The actress, who appeared at a Popsugar panel talk in New York City on Saturday, told the crowd that Season 4 of the hit show will delve into the early days of Jack and Rebecca Pearson’s relationship. And that, of course, there are surprises.

“There is a big surprise in that first episode that people are not going to see coming. We get to live back in Jack and Rebecca’s early ’70s days after they come back to Pittsburgh from their road trip in California… It’s the land of hats and fun ’70s jewelry,” Moore told the crowd.

She hinted that the Pearson family will also again deal with some kind of grief, and that the episodes are packed with emotion.

“I’ve learned that family can look any which way you want it to. I’ve learned a kind of strength and resilience I didn’t know was possible,” Moore says of the new season. “I’ve learned that grief can take any form. There’s a treasure trove of life advice packed into each episode, and I feel so lucky that we get to live out these experiences and these stories.”

The discussion was moderated by her “This Is Us” co-star, Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays the beloved Beth Pearson.

Watson asked Moore about her many auditions before landing her “This Is Us” role, and there were a few that stood out.

“‘Mama Mia,’ I remember auditioning for that, I totally bombed the audition,” Moore recalled. ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ — totally bombed that audition, too.”

Season 4 of ‘This Is Us’ premieres on NBC on Sept. 24.
