Woman suspected of killing little girl, stepfather in Port St. Lucie arrested

    PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (WPTV) — Police say a woman suspected of shooting and killing her young daughter and stepfather overnight at an apartment complex in Port St. Lucie is now under arrest.

The police department confirms 28-year-old Alyssa Marie Torres was located by detectives around 10:30 a.m. Monday and taken into custody.

A news conference about the case is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Port. St. Lucie Police Department headquarters.

According to investigators, at 12:30 a.m. police responded to the Waterleaf Townhomes Apartments, located at 1900 SE Hillmoor Dr., for reports of a shooting involving two fatalities.

Police said Torres shot and killed her stepfather, believed to be in his early 50s, as well as her own daughter. Family members confirm the little girl is 7-year-old Amarilyss Martinez.

St. Lucie County Fire Rescue also transported Torres’ mother to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries. Police said Torres’ mother was not shot.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the double homicide, and at this time the motive remains a mystery.

Senior Sgt. Lisa Carrasquillo said police don’t believe Torres lived at the apartment where the shooting occurred.

The names of the victims have not been released.
