TAMPA. FL (WFTS) — The man accused of attacking “Pinky” the Flamingo at Busch Gardens back in 2016 was hit and killed by a truck while crossing the street in Orlando earlier this month.

Joseph Corrao was walking northbound from the eastbound right shoulder onto State Road 50 from Story Partin Rd. in Orlando when he was hit by a Ford F150 pickup truck. The accident happened on June 5.

He died of his injuries at the hospital. The driver has not been charged at this time.

Corrao had initially been deemed not competent to stand trial, but earlier this year was ruled competent and had a trial coming up in August.

In the original incident, Corrao was visiting the park with his family. Police say he reached into an animal pen in the Jambo Junction area, picked up Pinky the flamingo and threw her to the ground with enough force to nearly sever her foot.

Pinky later had to be euthanized due to the severity of her injuries.
