An annual event honoring teachers has been canceled, but an adjustment to the reveal still made for a celebration on Thursday.

Bitterroot Elementary School Principal Kevin Croff received a surprise drive-by visit about being a recipient of the Golden Apple Award.

"I can't even put words to this," he said. "I'm so appreciative. I'm just so overwhelmed."

The Golden Apple Committee chose six educators who exemplify excellence in education.

This year the announcement happened on Zoom and a drive-by recognized each recipient.

The six Golden Apple Award recipients:

  • Staci Byrd, Poly Drive Elementary School second grade teacher
  • Kevin Croff, Bitterroot Elementary School principal
  • Shirley Greene, Lewis & Clark Middle School life science teacher
  • Natalie Miller, Beartooth Elementary School secretary,
  • Alice Nation, Senior High School Spanish teacher
  • Paula Simcox, McKinley Elementary School 1st grade teacher

Normally, the six Golden Apple winners are honored at the Educator Appreciation Awards Banquet, which has been canceled.
