Solar energy panels to be installed on Billings Skyview High this summer

Posted

BILLINGS – The Skyview Falcons will soon be partially solar-powered.

Solar panels will be installed over the summer on the campus grounds.

The school — the largest energy user in Billings School District 2 — secured a $50,000 grant from NorthWestern Energy to install the system. Total cost of the project is $148,000.

District officials estimate the system will save enough energy to pay for itself within 11 years or sooner, depending on the solar energy market.

In 30 years, the district expects to save $327,000 in energy costs.

School District 2 will try for a second $50,000 grant to install a similar solar energy system on Senior High School.
