BOZEMAN – Fourth through eighth graders competed in the Montana State Geography Bee at the Museum of the Rockies Friday. Around one hundred students participated in the event.
Caleb Mark from Hardin won the Geography Bee and will be competing for a fifty thousand dollar scholarship with forty nine other state winners at the national competition in Washington, D.C.
The Geography Bee has been an annual competition for thirty years and is sponsored by the National Geographical Society. Students were asked questions ranging from basic to historical geography.
“We had questions on states where different immigrants to America traveled to. We had questions on the holy land in the Middle East and we had questions on islands off the coast of Antarctica. So it was from all over the world,” said Bill Wyckoff, Geography Professor, Montana State.
The national competition will be held May 20th through May 23rd.
