Residents evacuated from downtown Billings apartment building after pepper spray deployed

Posted

BILLINGS – Pepper spray in an apartment building led to an evacuation in downtown Billings Wednesday night.

The call came in at 7:05 p.m. at 2413 Montana Ave. Craft Local, a pub and arts space, occupies the bottom floor and apartments are in the upper floors.

The tenants left the building on their own, according to one resident, who told Q2 that a chemical caused an irritation in his throat.

Billings firefighters arrived and determined the chemical was pepper spray.

Battalion Chief Jason Lyon said he called for help from the Billings Police to get information on what happened.

Lyon said no witnesses saw what happened.

The incident is under investigation.
