LAUREL – Volunteers have completed another phase of the Montana State Firefighters Memorial in Laurel.
The memorial committee spent Monday installing the cornerstone, three granite slates that bear the names of firefighters who have lost their lives while battling flames.
Current and former firefighters, as well as legislators and community members, have been working for years to get the memorial built. So far, more than $80,000 has been put into the memorial, with plans for more additions down the road.
A dedication ceremony is planned for Sept 8.
