HELENA – Gasoline demand strengthened and supply declined over the past week, which pushed up prices at the pump, analysts said Thursday.

Montana’s gas price average is $2.94, according to automotive group AAA, which is one cent more expensive on the week and month — and 58 cents more than a year ago.

“As crude and gasoline inventories tighten, gas prices remain volatile," AAA Montana spokeswoman Michelle Donati said. "On the week, pump prices increased as much as 11 cents for some states. Fortunately, price increases for Montana motorists have been relatively minimal."

The price of gas in Great Falls is sitting at $2.79 per gallon, Billings is averaging $2.78 and the average price for gas in Missoula is sitting at $2.98 per gallon.
