BILLINGS- Skyview High School has installed two solar panels on the campus grounds in Billings Heights.
"We are very serious about energy consumption and conservation in the district, and it’s part of our whole culture at School District 2. Skyview is our largest user of electricity, so that’s why Skyview was chosen. We have since, also received a grant for Senior High School, and that project is in process too, right now," said Billings School District 2 facility director Scott Reiter.
According to a Billings School District 2 economic analysis, the total cost of the installation of the solar panels is just under $150,000.
The analysis also predicts that over 30 years, the panels will save the school’s district around $390,000 in energy costs.
"Anything that we can do to conserve energy. And actually we are at about since 2008, about $6.5 million in conserved energy, in saved energy and that’s not just electricity that would be gas and water as well," Reiter said.
The grant being used for the installation of the solar panels at Billings senior high school is $50,000, and the project is already underway.
