This summer, law enforcement agencies across the country have gone viral because of the Lip Sync Challenge.

The trend arrived in Montana a few weeks ago, with the Montana Highway Patrol posting a video of troopers lip-syncing, dancing, and sporting wigs to One Direction’s hit song "What Makes You Beautiful."

In the post, the MHP challenged the Great Falls Police Department to participate in the challenge.

The GFPD responded: "Well played Montana Highway Patrol, well played. Challenge accepted! This will be hard to top but we will give it our best shot. GFPD lip sync video coming soon."

On Monday afternoon, the GFPD released their video, which features Maroon 5’s song "Girls Like You." However, the production was weeks in the making.

"It kind of morphed out of a discussion on a lip sync challenge into something we would make our own and go beyond," Officer Aaron McAdam said.

The GFPD brought something different to the challenge. It was McAdam, not Adam Levine, singing with vocals also provided by assistant city prosecutor Mark Dunn.

The official "Girls Like You" music video features powerful women from pop culture and athletics. The GFPD also put the spotlight on a special kind of woman.

"The Adam Levine video, the Maroon 5 video, is highlighting a bunch of women and their strength and we wanted to highlight, as a police department, that it takes a girl, or a spouse, a specific type of person to be a police officer’s wife," McAdam said. "So that song kind of came out of nowhere and we said, ‘Hey, let’s honor the people behind the badge.’"

In a Facebook post, the GFPD said: "We dedicate this to everyone behind the badge. We recognize that no officer serves alone, that behind every badge there is a strong support system that sacrifices and enables an officer to carry out their duties to protect and serve. Thank you to the spouses, life partners, parents/grandparents, extended family members, friends, and everyone who keeps the house running when a shift is unexpectedly extended, who keeps a plate warm until midnight on Thanksgiving, or who listens when we need to talk."

The GFPD noted that everyone involved in the project donated their time and resources. They closed by challenging the officers of the Missoula Police Department and the Livingston Police Department to create their own video.
