Montana prison inmate dies

A Montana prison inmate who was convicted of crimes in Yellowstone County has died.

Joshua Powderface, 57, died Monday at Marias Medical Center in Shelby. He was an inmate at the Crossroads Correctional Facility in Shelby.

A press release from the Montana Department of Corrections does not state how Powderface died, but said an autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.

Powderface was sentenced in Yellowstone County in 2010 to 50 years in prison, with 35 years suspended, on convictions for theft, persistent felony offender for burglary, and persistent felony offender for possession of illegal drugs with intent to distribute.

Powderface was eligible for parole in 2022 and had a discharge date of 5-29-24.
