BILLINGS- MSU Billings announced Thursday that enrollment decreased 2 percent for the fall semester.
The class count shows 4,315 students, down 86 compared to the 2017 fall semester. The number of full-time equivalent students was 3.9 percent below the target – a key figure because that’s the metric used by the state to determine funding based on enrollment.
“I knew when I started as Chancellor that long-term work is needed to grow MSU Billings,” MSUB Chancellor Dan Edelman said in a news release. “We have a number of initiatives underway that aim to impact future enrollment numbers.”
The total includes 2,749 students at the main campus and 1,566 at City College.
MSUB has 3,960 undergraduate students and 355 graduate students.
Dual enrollment, a program that allows high school students to take college classes, has increased 16.7 percent with 544 students.
Also, Yellowstone County enrollment at 2,474 is the highest in four years.
The College of Education and the College of Allied Health Professions each had enrollment increases this semester.
And there may be growth for MSUB , according to Edelman.
“Even with decreasing population of high-school age students in Montana, there is still plenty of opportunity for MSU Billings and other institutions in the state,” Edelman said. “We will continue to promote the value of higher education to untapped markets.”
