BILLINGS- The losing candidate in Yellowstone County’s tightest judicial race said Thursday she will file for a recount.
Juli Pierce said she will file a petition with the Secretary of State’s office on Friday.
With all the votes tallied, Pierce was defeated by Ashley Harada, 30,249 votes to 30,130.
The 119 vote difference is .196 percent, which is within the .25 percent requirement for a recount paid for by the county.
Pierce needed to file within five days of Wednesday’s state canvassing to qualify for the recount, according to the Yellowstone County Elections Office.
Bret Rutherford, Yellowstone County’s elections supervisor, has estimated a recount would cost the county about $10,000.
