In west Billings, a company wants to start new a gravel pit.
The Yellowstone County Zoning Commission will meet as part of the special review for the project on Monday.
FirstMark Materials has plans to operate the project on the land on Wise Lane and Story Road, near Oscar’s Park
Some of the property is zoned for agriculture and FirstMark asked for a special review to be able to operate a gravel extraction open cut mine.
The plans call for the gravel mine to be on about 116 acres.
FirstMark business development manager Ed Walker said the land is properly zoned for about half the proposed project.
He said allowing the rest of the land to be used would keep the equipment farther away from other businesses in the area.
When the project is finished in 12-15 years, FirstMark will restore the land and it will include a lake for the owners of Oscars to develop.
Walker said his company has a similar project on Johnson Lane in Lockwood.
The Yellowstone County Zoning Commission meets on Monday at 4 pm in the first floor conference room of the Miller Building on 2825 3rd Avenue north.
FirstMark will meet with property owners near Wise and Story, on Thursday at 6 pm at the Oscars wedding facility.
The zoning commission will make a recommendation to the county commissioners, who are scheduled to consider FirstMark’s application on Dec. 26.
