1 killed in downtown Billings early morning crash

UPDATE 6 a.m. – Billings police said the male driver – believed to be 38-years-old – has died.

UPDATE 5:50 a.m. – Two lanes of 6th Avenue North have been reopened for traffic.

BILLINGS – A driver suffered serious injuries early Thursday after crashing his car, wrapping it around a tree.

Billings police officers were called to the intersection of 6th Avenue North and North 30th Street at 1:22 a.m. Thursday.

Officers said a 28-year-old Billings man was driving west on 6th Avenue North at high speed when he lost control and hit a tree.

The driver was trapped and had to be extricated from the car.

Emergency crews performed CPR at the scene, and the man was taken to Billings Clinic.

Westbound traffic on 6th Avenue North at North 30th Street was shut down while police investigated.
