BILLINGS- Cold temperature records for Billings are expected to fall this weekend.  If we drop to minus 20 degrees Saturday night it will not only break the record for the day but it will mark the latest date in history the temperature in Billings will be that cold.   It will be the first time in five years the temperature will drop below minus 20.

The arctic blast will bring colder temperatures late this afternoon.  Once we hit below zero overnight we could be in negative temperatures for more than 50 hours.  Nickolai Reimer, a meteorologist at the Billings National Weather Service office, says we could drop to below zero at 2:00 a.m. Saturday and not get above zero again until 11:00 a.m. on Monday.  The coldest temperature of the weekend will happen early Sunday morning.

The long-range forecast for Billings does not have the temperature above freezing anytime soon. The National Climate Center is calling for below normal temperatures for March.
