NEW YORK – At least four people were hurt when a manhole fire broke out Wednesday in Manhattan.

The fire started around 9:45 a.m. on East 32nd Street between Madison and Fifth avenues in Midtown.

At least one firefighter was seriously hurt. A building maintenance worker also suffered a minor injury.

East 32nd Street is shut down between Madison and Fifth, and M4 and Q32 buses are being detoured.

Two buildings have been evacuated because of elevated levels of carbon monoxide.
