LAUREL – The Montana Department of Transportation and a lot of commuters are celebrating the grand opening of the new U.S. Highway 212/310 stretch between Rockvale and Laurel.

The agency announced Friday the opening of 10 miles of the new roadway on Wednesday, June 26.

Transportation officials had hoped to open the road earlier this spring, but rain and other bad weather pushed back the opening for weeks.

This expansion will handle the increased traffic growth in the area and help with safety in a stretch that sees multiple crashes each year.

The new two-lane road includes two new bridges over the railroad, overhead lights, turn lanes, and the replacement of the flashing beacon at the intersection of U.S. 212 and  310.
