Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center’s Doug Chabot talked about current avalanche conditions in the backcountry and the new tools to use when you head out for fun.

According to Chabot, the early season snowfall in October has formed a very weak base which is increasing avalanche danger.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center partnered with the Gallatin Valley Snowmobile Association to put in two new beacon checkers at the Taylor Fork and Buck Ridge trailheads.

The beacon check stations will provide a very important asset to enthusiasts, allowing snowmobilers, skiers and hikers a chance to check their equipment before they head into avalanche terrain.

The beacon checkers at Buck Ridge and Taylor Fork trailheads are operational at this time.
