Restaurants in Billings are teaming up to help people in need, kids, and senior citizens stay fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matthew Colebank, president of Montana Restaurants Brands, has been working with local restaurants to sign them up for the Yellowstone Restaurant Coalition.
PostNet, a printing company in Billings, helped the coalition by printing out meal vouchers for each of the restaurants involved. Those vouchers are good for a free meal from each of the various restaurants involved in the program.
“If you want to get those vouchers, you can go through the Adult Resource Alliance, Family Promise, Family Services. Tumbleweed has vouchers as well,” said Colebank.
Vouchers were also distributed to the school districts, who then distributed them to families in need.
The local restaurants involved said they are happy to be helping the community even after their businesses have seen a hit from the coronavirus.
“Of course, we want to support our community as much as we can, even though it’s a little tough for us as well. But there is other people that are even worse off than we are,” said Birgitt Adams, owner and chef at Oktoberfest German restaurant.
So far, Oktoberfest has seen eight people come in with their free meal vouchers.
The vouchers for Oktoberfest include a free Goulash meal served on mashed potatoes.
