Billings Skyview High School allowed students to come in and gather all necessary school supplies on Thursday to help them transition to a full online learning schedule.
Other schools in Billings have made the switch amid the rapid spreading coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Senior and West high schools are also offering supplies for students.
Montana had 12 reported cases of the virus, including two in Yellowstone County, as of Thursday morning, according to the state Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Skyview Principal Deb Black said students at Skyview can check out the textbooks needed, and if they do not have access to a computer, they can check out Chromebook laptops as well.
Freshman and sophomore students were able to pick up their supplies in the morning. Juniors and seniors picked them up in the afternoon.
Black said she hopes that this online platform will still allow students to receive all necessary learning hours for the year and seniors will graduate on time.
“This is how students learn now. It’s the online piece. It’s not the sit-and-get piece I grew up with,” said Black.
Black said that at this time, Skyview is set up for one more week of online learning, but the school is prepared for longer online courses if needed.
