Montana adds 133 new COVID-19 cases (Saturday, Aug. 8)

Montana added 133 new COVID-19 cases to its total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map on Saturday.

According to Montana's Saturday morning update, Yellowstone County reports the most new cases with 49. Gallatin County reports an additional 15 cases, while Big Horn County saw the third-biggest increase on Saturday with 14 new cases.

A complete list of new cases reported Saturday by county is below.

Note: Numbers reported by the state each day may differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. MTN News counts the updated data individual counties report throughout a given day.

  • TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 4,889 cumulative cases statewide, with 3,255 people recovered.
  • HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are currently 81 patients hospitalized. There have been 268 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
  • ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,559 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.
  • TESTING: The number of tests increased by 1,090 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 188,846.
  • DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana is now at 75.

Cascade County confirmed its fourth death due to COVID-19on Friday; the first COVID-19 death in Stillwater County was also reported on Friday.

We will update this article with information about additional COVID-19 deaths reported statewide on Saturday once that information is available.

Governor Steve Bullock announced a statewide directive requiring face coverings/masks in Montana on July 15. The directive applies to counties that have four or more active cases of COVID-19.

The directive requires that masks be used in most indoor settings and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Bullock said businesses will have the right to deny entry of anyone not wearing a mask.
