Montana added 143 new COVID-19 cases to its total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map on Thursday.
A complete list of new cases reported by county is below.
Note: Numbers reported by the state each day may differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. MTN News counts the updated data individual counties report throughout a given day.
- TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 6,929 cumulative cases statewide, with 5,024 people recovered.
- HOSPITALIZATIONS: The state has not provided hospital case numbers at this time.
- ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,807 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.
- TESTING: The number of tests increased by 1,753 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 238,260.
- DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana stands at 98.
The death toll increased from 91 to 98. Five of the deaths occurred in Yellowstone County in July and August but were just recently added to the state data. RiverStone Health issued this press release Tuesday morning:
RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports five more Yellowstone County residents have died due to COVID-19 related illness.
On Wednesday, July 29, a man in his 90s passed away at a Yellowstone County senior living facility.
On Friday, July 31, a man in his 80s also passed away at a Yellowstone County senior living facility.
On Saturday, August 1, a woman in her 80s passed away at her home.
On Saturday, August 15, a male in his 60s passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.
On Saturday, August 22, a woman in her 80s passed away at Canyon Creek Memory Care. She is the 17 resident to die of COVID-19 related illness from that facility’s outbreak.
All five deaths are reflected on the Tuesday, August 25 state COVID-19 tracking map. Four of the five deaths were identified through data reconciliation and a review of death certificates at the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services vital statistics unit.
To protect the privacy of the deceased and their families, RiverStone Health will not release further information about the deaths.
“The toll of COVID-19 continues to weigh heavily on our community. We hope that the sorrow and heartache of the deceased’s families and friends soon gives way to comfort and peace,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and RiverStone Health President and CEO.
To date, 1,816 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 41 have died.
Cascade County reported the highest number of new cases with 39, followed by Yellowstone County with 19 and Flathead County with 16. Hill County reported 13 new cases and Big Horn County 12. The remaining new cases were reported across 17 Montana counties.
Governor Steve Bullock announced a statewide directive requiring face coverings/masks in Montana on July 15. The directive applies to counties that have four or more active cases of COVID-19.
The directive requires that masks be used in most indoor settings and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Bullock said businesses will have the right to deny entry of anyone not wearing a mask.
