Montana state health officials reported 80 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, shattering the previous single day record, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.
The majority of the new cases - 55 - were reported in Yellowstone County where a care facility announced earlier Tuesday an outbreak of the virus had infected dozens of residents and staff.
Other new cases across the state were reported in Hill County with five new cases, and three new cases were reported in each Gallatin, Park, and Ravalli counties.
Two new cases were reported in Big Horn County, Cascade County, and Madison County. One new case was reported in each Carbon County, Lake County, Lewis and Clark County, Stillwater County, and Wheatland County. The Wheatland County case is the second to be reported in that area.

(Note: There are several discrepancies between the total number of cases and the number of active cases being reported by state health officials and county health officials. For instance, Sanders County reported its first COVID-19 case on Monday but that case is not reflected on the most recent state report. Local health departments often learn about results from private labs and update their numbers before the state of Montana does. Additionally, there may also be differences in reporting criteria, so the local numbers may differ from those that appear on the Montana COVID-19 tracking map.)
