Montana reports 1 additional death, 142 new COVID-19 cases (Thursday, Aug. 13)

Montana state health officials reported one additional death and 142 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.

Yellowstone County again saw the largest number of new cases with 37. Big Horn County reported 13 new cases, and Gallatin County counted 12 new cases. (Update 8 p.m. Big Horn County reported 17 new cases Thursday night.)

The number of cases also continued to grow in Phillips County where as recently as last week there were no reported cases of the virus. On Thursday the county reported 11 new cases, boosting the total number of cases there to 78, with 64 currently active.

The remaining number of new cases were spread across 20 Montana counties.

One additional death was reported in Yellowstone County, bringing the state total to 81. Here's the full press release from RiverStone Health:

RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports an additional COVID-19 related death.

On Wednesday, August 12, a man in his 60s passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.

To protect the privacy of the deceased and his family, RiverStone Health will not release further information about the death.

This most recent death is reflected on the August 13 state COVID-19 tracking map.

“Our deepest sympathy to the deceased’s family and friends as they grieve the passing of their loved one,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and RiverStone Health President and CEO. “Over the past months, COVID-19 has cut short the lives of too many, and we wish strength and peace to all who are grieving during this difficult time.”

To date, 1,424 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 32 have died.

Active Cases

The cumulative total number of cases in Montana has grown to 5,407. There have been 3,937 recoveries and there are currently 1,389 active cases of the virus in the state.

The number of current hospitalizations grew to 101 on Thursday. The total number of tests stands at 197,820, an increase of 1,784 during the previous 24-hour reporting period.
