Two COVID-19 deaths reported in Yellowstone County, 52 new cases statewide (Monday, Aug. 24)

Montana state health officials reported one additional death and 52 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.

The state death toll now stands at 91. RiverStone Health reported two new deaths on Monday morning. Here's the full press release:

RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports two additional COVID-19 related deaths.

On Thursday, August 6, a woman in her 70s passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.

On Saturday, August 22, a woman in her 60s passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.

The woman who died in early August was initially thought to be a resident of another county and it has been since determined that she was a Yellowstone County resident. Her death was noted on the Saturday, August 22 state COVID-19 tracking map.

The death of the woman who passed away on Saturday, August 22 is reflected on the August 24 state COVID-19 tracking map.

To protect the privacy of the deceased and their families, RiverStone Health will not release further information about the deaths.

“No matter when or where someone dies from COVID-19, we cannot forget that each life taken too soon has value and meaning. We hope that the families and friends of these two women find peace in memories of happier times,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and RiverStone Health President and CEO.

To date, 1,797 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 36 have died.

Cascade County reported the highest number of new cases Monday with 17. Flathead County reported 10 new cases, and Powell County added five. Yellowstone County reported five new cases and Gallatin County added four. Five other counties added new cases on Monday, according to state health officials.

The cumulative number of coronavirus cases statewide now stands at 6,489. There have been 4,842 recoveries, and there are currently 1,556 active cases statewide. Yellowstone County has 781 active cases, and Big Horn County has the second highest number of active cases with 173. Flathead County reports 115 active cases.

There are now 114 people hospitalized for treatment of the virus.

There have been a total of 233,673 tests.
