Montana reports 2 additional deaths, 184 new COVID-19 cases (Thursday, Sept. 3)

Montana state health officials reported two additional deaths and 184 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.

Both deaths were reported in Yellowstone County. The state death toll now stands at 111. Here's the full press release from RiverStone Health:

RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, reports two more Yellowstone County residents haves died due to COVID-19 related illness.

On Tuesday, September 1, a man in his 70s passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.

On Wednesday, September 2, man in his 90s who resided at MorningStar Senior Living passed away in a Yellowstone County hospital.

These most recent deaths are reflected on the Thursday, September 3 state COVID-19 tracking map.

To protect the privacy of the deceased and their families, RiverStone Health will not release further information.

“I offer my heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of the deceased. I hope that they find comfort in each other and peace in this time of profound grief,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and RiverStone Health President and CEO. “With two deaths in as many days, September is not off to a positive start and I pray that more families will be spared the pain of losing a loved one to this disease.”

To date, 2,200 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 45 have died.

Cascade County reported the highest number of new cases with 58. Yellowstone County added 33 cases, and Flathead County reported 25 new cases.

The positive test rate in Yellowstone County over a rolling seven day period now stands at 10.4 percent, according to RiverStone Health COVID-19 data.

There were 17 new cases reported in Rosebud County, and Big Horn County reported 10 new cases.

The remaining new cases were reported across 19 Montana counties.

The state now has a cumulative total of 7,871 cases of the virus since the pandemic began. There have been 5,727 recoveries and there are now 2,033 active cases in the state.

There are now 151 people hospitalized for treatment of the virus.

There have been 255,660 tests performed, an increase of 1,520 during the previous 24-hour reporting period.
