Red Lodge Mountain will close for the rest of the season to contain the spread of coronavirus, ski area officials announced Thursday.

“We care immensely for our employees, customers and local communities, which made this the toughest decision I have been involved in during my time at Red Lodge Mountain,” said Jeff Schmidt, general manager, in a news release.

The ski area did not rule out a reopening if a late spring snow comes and local health officials agree it's safe.

Red Lodge is also relaxing its policy on refunds and cancellations and will contact pass holders in the coming days. The ski area is expecting a high volume of calls and is asking for patience.
