BILLINGS - A resident at a Billings nursing home has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a press release issued by Avantara Billings, the facility was notified recently of the positive test.
"The resident is currently in stable condition at a local hospital," the statement issued by Micheal Speidel, the facility's regional director of operations, states. "At this time, Avantara Billings is not aware of any other persons, staff or residents, at the facility who have tested positive for COVID-19."
Speidel said the facility, located at 2115 Central Ave., does not know where the resident came into contact with the virus and the person was recently admitted to the facility after being treated at another healthcare facility.
"We are nonetheless taking full precautionary measures at the facility," he said.
The age and gender of the resident was not released.
The facility is working with the Yellowstone County Health Department, the Montana Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will "continue to strictly adhere to all guidelines provided by public health officials and government leaders."
In late May, Yellowstone County health officials announced free coronavirus testing would begin at area nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
There are more than 2,200 licensed beds in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Yellowstone County.
Previously, Gov. Steve Bullock directed the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services to expand testing in nursing homes and assisted living facilities to include all residents and employees, even if they have no symptoms.
