BILLINGS – More than 500 registered sex offenders live in Yellowstone County, the most of any county in Montana.

Last week, law enforcement agencies conducted a registered sex offender compliance check by contacting a total of 503 offenders, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

Of the total offenders checked, 40 were found to be non-compliant and will be referred to appropriate authorities for possible prosecution. They may also be given an opportunity to come into full requirements with registration requirements, the press release states.

One offender was arrested on a federal warrant for supervised release violations.

Agencies participating in the operation include the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Probation Office, Montana Department of Justice, and the Montana Department of Corrections Probation and Parole.
