LIVINGSTON – One horse was shot and killed and another was severely injured after an incident that happened over the New Year’s holiday in Livingston.
Tracy Gubler got a call around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, saying her horse was dead.
“I was sick,” said Gubler. “I couldn’t fathom that anybody would shoot a horse. They aren’t bad neighbors. They don’t bark, they don’t do anything to hurt anybody, so we were pretty upset about the whole process.”
Once Gubler heard the news, she went to the pasture located near Rubber Ducky River Rentals to check and see if the news was true. When she got there, she saw her 14-year-old horse Wyatt laying on the ground dead.
“We have two horses,” said Gubler. “Another horse was out in the pasture with the horses. He was pretty badly cut up. My other horse was fine.”
Gubler’s grandfather made his way to the pasture to help her move the horse, and when he arrived he noticed a hole through the horse’s body. Gubler said both a livestock investigator and a vet both confirmed the horse had been shot.
Never did Gubler think anything like this would have happened, especially so close to a busy street.
“The horses are in town and it could have easily been a person versus my horse,” said Gubler.
The Park County sheriff is currently investigating the case. Gubler said many people have reached out and given money to go towards a reward to find the culprit, which is up to $3,000.
