BILLINGS- A former Custer County High School science teacher was sentenced to 10 years in prison for six counts of sexual intercourse without consent with a 15-year-old student.

Morgan Pett, 38, pleaded guilty in December to multiple sexual encounters with a 15-year-old female student over a month’s time in December 2016. Prosecutors saidPett also attempted to conceal evidence by asking the girl to delete messages and photos.

Pett will also pay $25,000 in fines related to the charges.

Pett will get credit for the 247 days he already served in Custer County jail.

Along with jail time, Pett will have to register as a level one sex offender and undergo a psychosexual evaluation.

The female victim told police that the two began a relationship in the fall of 2016 and began texting each other daily.

Pett started as a teacher in Miles City in 2008. He was placed on administrative leave after school officials learned of the accusations and fired.

He moved to Alaska, where he was extradited from on the charges last summer.
