What started as a bump in the snow for a Wyoming plow driver ended with a big drug bust for the state’s highway patrol.
On Thursday, a Wyoming Department of Transportation snow plow driver struck a black pelican case in while clearing a road in Carbon County, and out poured a whole lot of cash, according to state troopers.
The driver immediately turned the case over to the local Wyoming Highway Patrol office in Elk Mountain, about two hours south of Casper.
At the same time, three people in a small Toyota contacted a different maintenance vehicle and asked about the pelican case. They were told to head to the local Elk Mountain patrol office.
When they arrived, troopers said they noticed the smell of marijuana from the vehicle, which was then confirmed by a drug dog.
Troopers said they then searched the car and found 81 pounds of marijuana, felony amount of MDMA (street name of ecstasy), a misdemeanor amount of hallucinogenic mushrooms and felony amounts of liquid THC.
The three were arrested and charged with felony possession of controlled substances. Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeremy Beck said they were booked into Carbon County jail but he did not have their names.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the Wyoming Highway Patrol are investigating.
