BILLINGS- A Crow Agency man was sentenced Thursday to six-and-a-half years in federal prison for beating his partner and trying to intimidate her into silence about the assaults.

Lansing Zachary Rock Above, 34, pleaded guilty in November to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse or partner and tampering with a witness, according to a release from U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.

Prosecutors said Rock Above beat and strangled the woman on Feb. 23 and 24, 2018, on the Crow reservation, resulting in treatment for bruises and injuries to her head, neck and teeth.

A month later, Rock Above called her five times on a recorded line from the Big Horn County Detention Facility in Basin, Wyo., and tried to convince her to say nothing happened.

U.S. District Judge Susan Watters presided over the case.
