KALISPELL – A Coram man accused of shooting another man in the chest last month has pleaded not guilty to charges in court Thursday.

Nineteen-year-old Martin Chandler is charged with deliberate homicide.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 14, Chandler entered 54-year-old William Melton’s residence where they got into a dispute about drugs.

Prosecutors say that’s when Chandler shot Melton in the chest before leaving the house.

He remains in custody at the Flathead County jail on $250,000 bond.

A jury trial is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9.
