Update 8:50 a.m. Sunday

BILLINGS - Police said in a press release issued Sunday morning that a man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in a Billings Heights apartment.

Lt. Matthew Lennick said in the release the case began Saturday shortly after 4 p.m. when officers responded to a request for a welfare check at a residence in the 300 block of Sioux Lane. Officers were advised that the female resident had not been seen for a while and that potentially suspicious activity was involved.

Officers arrived and located the body of a 52-year-old woman and detained a 45-year-old man located inside of the residence.

The Billings Police Investigations unit was called to the scene and took over the investigation.

Further processing of the victim and scene led officers to believe the woman was murdered.

The suspect, identified as Shane Roberts, was arrested and booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a possible charge of deliberate homicide.

Police did not disclose how the woman died or what evidence led to the man's arrest.
