Audria Shannon Nickerson of Butte was arrested in Maine over the weekend. Nickerson is facing a charge of felony negligent homicide for the September death of her 5-month-old daughter.
A warrant was issued for Nickerson’s arrest on $250,000 bond in Butte Justice Court on Thursday morning.
She was taken into custody in Maine on Saturday and is being held without bail pending extradition back to Montana. The circumstances of her arrest in Maine were not released.
Toxicology tests found methamphetamine in Nickerson’s system at the time of her baby's death. Police also found the woman's older son sleeping in the backseat.
Nickerson had been questioned by police after she was found in her parked vehicle with her dead daughter on the morning of Sept. 25. The mother and child were found in a car that was parked at the intersection of Alaska and Granite streets.
The incident began about 8:40 a.m when police officers noticed a car parked in an area less than a block from the police station. The car's engine was running and the car doors were locked.
Butte Sheriff Ed Lester said at the time that officers “...attempted to wake the female up and as they did that it appeared she was lying partially on an infant who was also in the vehicle. At that point they decided to break a window out of the passenger side of the vehicle and when they got to the infant, the infant was not breathing and had no pulse.”
