BILLINGS - Police said Wednesday a man drove a vehicle at officers before he was shot.

Billings police Lt. Brandon Wooley said in a press release the shooting Tuesday at about 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Clause Circle happened as officers with the Montana Violent Offender Task Force attempted to arrest 36-year-old Richard Martinez on valid warrants.

When Martinez drove at the officers one of them fired at Martinez, Wooley said.

Martinez was taken by ambulance to a Billings medical facility where he was treated for a gunshot wound and released. He is currently being held at the Yellowstone County jail on outstanding warrants and a possible new felony charge of assault on a peace officer, Wooley said.

No other injuries were reported.
