The first debate in Montana’s 2020 U.S. Senate race will be held Saturday night between incumbent Republican Senator Steve Daines and Democratic challenger, Governor Steve Bullock.
The debate, produced in partnership with the Montana Broadcasters Association and the Greater Montana Foundation, will air on all MTN CBS stations at 9 p.m. The debate will air on NBC stations KTVH and KTGF at 9:30 p.m.
Viewers can also watch the debate online after 6 p.m. on all MTN station websites.
Ron Davis, Greater Montana Foundation chair and president of Butte Broadcasting Inc., will moderate the hour-long debate, being held virtually via Zoom.
Montana’s U.S. Senate race has become one of the most closely-watched in the nation as Democrats attempt to gain majority control by flipping at least three net Republican-held Senate seats.
Daines is seeking a second six-year term, while Bullock—term-limited as governor—would hold his first federal office as senator if elected.
Bullock shook up the race after abandoning his bid to be the Democrats’ 2020 presidential candidate and declaring his senate candidacy on the last possible day in March.
Bullock and Daines are slated for two further debates after Saturday night, the Montana PBS Debate on Sept. 28 and the Montana Television Network debate on Oct. 10.
