Firefighters continue to work the BobCat fire 7 miles Southeast of Roundup. Highway 87 was closed Saturday due to wildfire spread and smoke but was reopened at 9:00am on Sunday. The Musselshell County DES reports the area is still dangerous and to use extreme caution when passing through this area . They ask that you reduce speed, please use your headlights and no stopping along the roadway.
The fire management team confirmed Saturday night that the BobCat Fire had not crossed over to the west side of Hwy 87. The fire along Highway 87 was backing down towards the highway, burning mostly in grass. A few pines continue to hold heat. A large team of fire engines continued to work the night shift on the fire.
The Bobcat Fire was very active throughout the day on Saturday. In the afternoon the fire pushed to the east and moved past Fattig Road in an easterly direction. Later in the day the wind shifted and pushed the fire west towards Highway 87.
The overnight infrared flight mapped the fire size this morning at 26,463 acres.
No cause of the fire has been determined.
