Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin confirmed in a virtual meeting on Tuesday that 28 residences were lost in the Bridger Foothills Fire.
Sheriff Gootkin said several outbuildings were also destroyed but an exact count could not be determined Tuesday.
As of Wednesday at 10 a.m., Bridger Canyon Road will be open for residents only from Boylan Road to Jackson Creek Road. Jackson Creek is open all the way to Bridger Canyon Road.
Residents need to stay off the roads from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to allow fire crews to travel the roads.
The Sheriff's Office also said in a Facebook post that residents should go directly to their homes upon returning.
"This is not a time to visit your neighbors or have friends, extended family, or construction crews come to your residences. It is still an active fire zone and fire teams are still working," the Sheriff's Office said.
