Five people died in a two-vehicle crash near Box Elder in Chouteau County on Friday evening.
The Montana Highway Patrol was notified of the crash at about 8:35 p.m.; it happened along Duck Creek Road near the intersection with Upper Box Elder Road.
According to the MHP, a northbound Taurus went off the road. The driver tried to correct back to the left, causing the car to go into a sideways slide toward the passenger side. The Taurus then collided with a southbound Chevy Malibu.
The MHP did not release the names to MTN News, but said that the victims include two 30-year olds, a 26-year old, and an 8-year old girl and 5-year old boy. All are said to be from Box Elder.
According to the MHP, alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
