KEY WEST, Fla. — It is less than 24 hours away from the USS Billings being commissioned into service. A lot was going on in Key West Thursday.

They have been busy putting the final touches on the Navy’s newest warship and rehearsing for tomorrow’s commissioning ceremonies.

Billings Mayor Bill Cole will have a part in that and Montana US Senator John Tester will be the principal speaker.

Q2's Russ Riesinger talked with him Thursday.

"I think this a great thing for the country from a protection standpoint and certainly a great honor for Billings as a city and if you look at the size of this ship it is massive. This is the first time I’ve seen it in person. I’ve seen pictures of it. I watched Sharla do the christening of it, but this is an amazing piece of equipment to defend our country and it’s been a long time coming," Tester said.

They are expecting a crowd of about 2000 people for the commissioning ceremony.
