BILLINGS – A fire that sent six people to the hospital on Tuesday morning was set intentionally by a child who lived there.

According to the Billings Police Department, following a joint investigation with the Billings Fire Department, it was determined a 12-year-old male started the fire.  The boy was one of the six taken to the hospital for evaluation but was not injured.

Billings police said Wednesday night the boy had lit the fire and left the home, where he was living. He has been taken to youth services, where he remains in custody.

According to Lt. David Cardillo, the home did not belong to the parents of the boy, but was also not a group home.  He said he was unable to release any additional information on the living situation at this time.

Cardillo also stated he was unable to release information on what caused them to determine the fire was set intentionally at this time.

Four adults and two children were transported to the hospital following the fire at 2120 Yellowstone Ave. around 1 a.m. Tuesday.  One of the children was then flown to Salt Lake City Children’s Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.
