JACKSON HOLE, Wyo.- A massive, 50,000-acre fire burning south of Jackson Hole, Wyoming has destroyed at least 40 homes as of Wednesday night, and crews say they have more to check on.

The count of homes destroyed was 22 earlier Wednesday, according to Wyoming firefighters.

The Roosevelt Fire started on Sep. 15.

Families in Bondurant, Wyo. have been evacuated for at least a week, and many ranchers will not have ranches to return to.

The fire is burning south of the Teton National Forest.

Highways surrounding the fire are also closed. Nearly 1,000 people are assigned to battle the blaze.

A go-fund-me account has been set up to help the residents of the evacuated and ravaged areas.
