BILLINGS-After 31 years, the Montana Poll is back and phones are set to start ringing in Montana to collect data this week.

The Montana Poll is a venture put on by Montana State University Billings and political science professor Dr. Jason Adkins. It’s one of the longest-standing polls in the state but wasn’t held in 2017.

Adkins said a group of students from his media public opinion class is making phone calls to gauge public opinion.

“They are asking about the Senate race, the House race, and Montana’s initiatives,” explained Adkins.

But how accurate will it be?

“That’s the case with polls. We are trying to measure public opinion at this point in time now. Who knows how public opinion may change in the next few weeks before the election,” he said. “But we will at least get a good gauge right now on what Montanans are thinking.”

The results will be unveiled on Oct. 23 during a press conference, which is two weeks before the Nov. 6 general election in Montana.

If you are wondering who’s on the phone list? The class purchased a database with randomly identified households o call.
