BILLINGS- It’s known as the Mega Million jackpot, but the name is no longer accurate when it comes to the prize.

On Friday, the Mega Millionsjackpot reached $1 billion, and ticket sales are rising at retailers all over Billings.

Jennifer McKee, a Montana Lottery spokeswoman, said this is the largest Mega Million jackpot ever.

In Billings, the big prize is enticing more people to buy.

“Lots of folks are coming out to try their luck at hitting the jackpot,” said Tammy Connard, a cashier at the 3G’s convenience store in the Billings Heights.

She told Q2 that nine out of the 10 people coming into the store are buying a ticket, and many are buying Mega Million tickets for the first time.

“People are coming in and they have all sorts of questions and they take one of these, and they don’t know what they are doing so we have to try and help them. They are buying two at a time or they are buying one at a time or they are buying a hundred dollars worth at a time,” Connard said.
